Nearly 19 million adults and about 7 million children had asthma in
2010. The proportion of people in the U.S. with the condition has risen
nearly 15% since 2001, according to a
CDC report released Tuesday. Asthma was responsible for 1.9 million
emergency department visits, 8.9 million visits to doctors' offices,
nearly 3,400 deaths and about 480,000 hospitalizations.
