From U.S. News & World Report/HealthDay News (2/25):
Babies delivered via cesarean section were five times more likely to
develop allergies by age 2 than those born vaginally when exposed
to high levels of allergens, a study found. Gastrointestinal microbes
may increase C-section babies' development of immunoglobulin E after
allergen exposure, lead author Christine Cole Johnson said. The findings
were presented at an American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology
conference.
