5 mental disorders share same gene variations, study finds
From DoctorsLounge.com/HealthDay News (2/27):
A study published in The Lancet found four genetic markers associated with autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity
disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression. Of
these gene variants, researchers said two help regulate calcium levels
in brain cells. While detecting these genes is not enough to predict a
person's risk for psychiatric disorders, the findings offer a better
understanding of the conditions, lead researcher Dr. Jordan Smoller
said.
